Della 6-Tray 650W dehydrator is the smaller version of the other two Della dehydrators we reviewed before, Della Deluxe 10 tray 850 watt and Della Commercial 10 tray 1200 watt models. This food and fruit dehydrator with 650 watt motor (120 Volts – 60 Hz voltage) is still suitable for use by big families, those that are into gardening or like eating healthy by creating healthy snacks in large batches as it is quite big inside with each tray drying area of 14 x 10.5 inches and you can fit quite a lot in. The whole thing weighs 13 pounds and measures 18.5 x 13 x 9.5 inches so it will fit between a standard counter and upper cabinets. The name says food and fruit dehydrator but you can actually dry different types of foods including vegetables, fruits, grains, herbs and meat to make beef jerky, for instance, re-crisping crackers, making yogurt and raising breads. You can separate, organize and dry different kind of fruits simultaneously on its six pull out trays. It has an LCD display panel with timer for you to set and keep it to the ideal drying time (can work up to 40 hours), on/off switch, temperature dial from 95 to 155 degrees Fahrenheit to set the precise temperature.
There is no bulky front panel but specially designed drawers with lip design that helps keep the heat inside, which is good especially if you don’t have a lot of space. It is nice to have an automatic shut-off feature on the timer and the unit is very easy to use as it is like a set it and forget it type dehydrator and works well overall and costs a lot less than some of the similar machines of the well known dehydrator brands like Excalibur. The diamond grid design of trays is great for convenience of use and saving on space for not having a large panel front door but it also can mean you can’t turn the trays around for more even drying, then you mostly won’t really need to turn them around as it is designed to dehydrate evenly with the back mounted fan and heating element (not bottom mounted). The best thing about it is you don’t have to open the whole interior when you want to check on a tray and there will be a lot less heat loss which means task not taking longer to complete (and you can see through the clear trays anyway). It does the job well, is not loud and costs very little as compared to competitors- performance and functions to price ratio is very high. This is a UL listed unit meaning UL tested product samples and meets UL’s safety requirements.
